Who’s up there?

Around sunset time, I was walking around in Fort Green in Brooklyn and happened to see two girls out side of the window! They seemed to having such a fun time. For some reason I felt like weaving hand to them, and which I did. Then they weaved hands back to me with big smile. Although it was just an accident, I love NY because of this kind of nice encounter!

I wonder if I did the same thing in somewhere little bit far from the center of Tokyo, what people would do.

BROOKLYN'S No.1 BURGER & HENNEPIN

I love tasting different kinds of beer with good burger. You can try so many kinds of beer from the world in New York City. I went to one of the most popular Burger Place, DUMONT BURGER in Williamsburg. Their burger was juicy, taste, and elegant. However, overall I thought it was little bit pricy. 8 ounces burger with a choice of fries or salad costs $14! That was little bit too much for me. I loved their brioche buns though.

Besides that I ordered a tap beer, HENNEPIN for the first time. This golden color Belgian ale tasted summer and has an alcohol content 7.7 percent which was rich yet mildly bitter and delicately well balanced. After I came home I checked about this beer and I learned that this beer has brewed by OMMEGANG( means consistent) in Cooperstown in New York! They have special events throughout the year.

Accoring to dictionary "Hennepin" means Bargain Prices. Smart Deals and "Ommegang" meaning "procession" is derived from the Flemish words "omme" (around) and "gang" (walk).

PINKNOISE at ZEBULON

PINKNOISE is an Israeli indie rock band based in Brooklyn. It was nice encounter and surprise that I met this unique, uncanny, powerful, and high quality sonic band at ZEBULON. I am not big fun of Rock music. However this band, oh my goodness, my body naturally move with their music. The main vocalist, Sharron Sulami has such a gorgeous voice and perfectly interwoven with the sound of each instrument. You can listen to their new album, "All is NU" but it is totally different from their live music.

PINKPONY & TARTE TATIN

My friend took me to her favorite café, Pink Pony in Lower East. We ordered a cup of coffee and Tarte Tatin. She asked me what Tatin meaning was but I wasn’t sure so when the waiter served us Tarte Tatin, I asked him about it. Kindly the waiter answered my question. He said that Tarte Tatin was upside down caramelized apple pie created by French woman, Ms. Tatin. I was impressed by the fact that the waiter knew some history about Tarte Tatin. Later, I was interested in the origin of Tarte Tatin so I searched “ Tarte Tatin” on line.

According to wikipedia, Tarte Tatin was created by accident. Back in 1898, Stéphanie and Caroline Tatin run the Hotel Tatin in Lamotte-Beuvron. One day Stéphanie Tatin was making apple pie but she overcooked apple with sugar and butter in the pan. In order to fix it she put pastry base on the top of the apple and put the whole pan in the oven. Surprisingly the hotel guests loved the upside down apple pie. This was the origin of Tarte Tatin. There was also another story that Stéphanie put apple pie upside down by mistake. In any case, it became a signature dish at the Hotel Tatin and the recipe spread through the Sologne region. Then a famous restaurant in Paris, Maxim’s owner, Louis Vaudable visited this region and he tasted Tarte Tatin and made this dessert a permanent dish on the menu at the restaurant, and which made Tarte Tatin well known to the world.
In America, Tarte Tatin is made specifically with Golden Delicious apples, which are not used for American style apple pie. Someday, I would love to try Tarte Tatin at Maxim’s.

Bryant Park

Spending some time in parks is like oasis in a big city like Manhattan. There are many parks in Manhattan but my most favorite park would be Bryant Park. Whenever I go to Midtown I drop by there and refresh myself. When the weather is nice, the park is filled with many people from office workers to tourists who enjoying relaxing time in their own ways. Some people enjoy lunch, others enjoy sun bathing, reading books and etc. During summer time they offer fun events every day such as yoga, tai-chi, bird watching and movie screening. Everyone should take advantage of this opportunity because it is free of charge!
